ABOUT ME
I, Chhayabrita Biswas, is a Physicist by profession. The main area of my venture is Material Science. Presently, I am Bose Fellow at S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, India. This is a tenure-track-faculty position. My responsibilities, here, include supervision of Ph. D. student, guide the master thesis student, laboratory development and instrumentation.
Before, I was Marie-Curie Fellow at BESSY II (now known as Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin), Berlin, Germany. I was doing post-doctorate under Dr. Oliver Rader in the group of Prof. W. Gudat. There I had the opportunity to pursue my independent research as well as supporting synchrotron experiments of other members of the group and collaborators. This experience acquainted me with the intricacies of a synchrotron radiation source.
My Ph. D. thesis titled "Electronic Structure studies of metals and intermetallics" dealt with varied systems that familiarized me with various phenomena of condensed matter physics and material science:
- Ferromagntic shape memory alloys Ni-Mn-Ga
- Mn adlayers on Al(111)
- Electronic excitations in Ag(111) and Ag(100)
- Ar nano-bubbles in Al(111)
- Plasmon excitations in core-level spectra of Al(111)
My research work has been realized with good number of publications in reputed international journals like Phys. Rev. Lett., Appl. Phys. Lett. and Phys. Rev. B.
more ........
I am an Indian woman with a blend of Indian traditions and modern values. I am born in Bhubaneswar in the state of Orissa, India. My father had a transferable government service, which brought me up in different parts of India. Thus, I could experience the diverse cultures and traditions of India that made me adaptable and tolerant to new and different environments. I can speak, read and write English, Hindi and Bengali languages. My stay in Berlin gave me an opportunity to taste German language as well as an exposure to varied European cultures.
bit more ........
My favourite hobby is travelling. This is mainly inspired by my father and the geography and history lessons learnt about the world in my school. Thus, I have travelled to most of the parts of India right from my childhood. While my stay in Berlin, whenever and as much possible, I tried to see Europe. My recent travel photographs can be viewed in my Orkut account. I like travelling in a group with friends. My best companion during travel is a good peice of literature and music. I prefer to read the literature and listen music of the place I am visiting.
